As much of these cars as I've torn apart over the years, I've never taken the hood cable out. Does that grommet have to come out? Or can you pop the handle out of the panel some how? I'm sure I could figure it out, but why not make use of the forum here? haha. I need to know sometime before end of this coming week, the new black panel has to go in

I need to know sometime before end of this coming week, the new black panel has to go in you have to unbolt the gromet from the firewall (1/4)socket.than the gromet splits so you can take it off the cable.them pull the cable out through the interior.but take off the clipp that holds cable to the rad support.

ahh, the grommet is bolted in. I didnt see that. I've been disconnecting it from the latch and just pulling the entire panel through to get back there for now, but now I can get the whole thing out. Thanks!

This is why I couldnt get the grommet out, nor did I know that it was screwed in. I couldnt see it through all the dirt and old paint! lol

I dont know, probably dirt and layers of spray paint. I tried to pick it off tho, and it seems to all be rubber. maybe it was coated from the factory to seal it the rest of the way. who knows..
