I don't recall which Monte Carlo site it was on. But there was once a thead about Chevy's overuse of the SS logo on vehicles.
I think someone on MonteCarloSS.com once posted the '00-'05 SS Montes weren't real SS cars. First and foremost cause they're FWD.
To me "SS" always stood for performance. Say what you want but the n/a 3800s aren't too shabby engines. The supercharged 3800s I hear are great, and I know the 5.3 V8 '06/07 SSs are just plain cool. I test drove a bright red '06 SS before I bought my LTZ.

Rj, It was probably Cort saying that about the 00-05 Montes, I know he hates them. LOL!
and your right, I love the 01! It does 70 in a heartbeat and rides so nice! The 06-07 SS with the 5.3 are just plain sick! Take the traction contol off and hang on! I want one sooo baddd!!!

Wasn't meant to be funny. Just telling it like it is, unlike Ch#$r%*et ... and it all started with that d**n Toyota Nova/Ch#$r%*et Corolla in the 1980s...and it hasn't stopped yet. Rj, It was probably Cort saying that about the 00-05 Montes, I know he hates them. No, I don't hate them. Remember ... I had one myself, sadly enough, for way too d**n long. Paid way too much for a Lumina, too. And, truth be told, I've been considering a couple different '06/'07 LT coupes for a winter beater (emphasis here, of course)/road trip car. Though, yesterday, I was offered a '96 Thunderbird...hmmm.... Anyway, I like those cars (yes, all the 95-07s), but what I HATE is the way GM (Ch#$r%*et in particular) allowed people to think the Lumina replaced the MC. It didn't; it replaced the Celebrity...period. I know I've posted this before, but for those that may not have seen it....: According to the book _Chevrolet: The Complete History_ [copyright 1996 by Publications International LTD], on page 348: "With the new Lumina coupe and sedan effectively replacing their Celebrity counterparts...." And, on page 359: "Taking the place of the aging Celebrity sedan was the Lumina sedan ... a coupe version followed in the fall." Also, the Lumina shared types (Eurosport), dashboards (flat/horizontal), tail lights (3 square on each side, across the back panel, more or less) and FWD with the Celebrity..... And, consider this ... the Monte Carlo was the only one of the cousin names (Buick Regal, Olds Cutlass Supreme, Pontiac Grand Prix) to NOT be slapped on a FWD car IMMEDIATELY after the RWD versions ended in 1987/1988. As for that thread you noted, RJ, I remember it ... and, believe it or not, I don't think it was me that wrote that initially about the FWD cars. I'd have to double check, but I THINK that is the thread that shocked me a bit ... finding out that others agree with me ... and, in some cases, are more adamant about it than I am. *shrugs* BUT ... as ya'll know, unlike some others, I've NEVER let this issue get in the way of meeting people ... and becoming friends. Life is WAY too short for that kind of nonsense, imho. Besides, we don't always agree on everything anyway ... the world would be too boring. I've met and become friends with a number of great people from here ... and even the 5th and 6th gen boards, as well as others. Why? Because it is about PEOPLE. Cars are secondary... Yes, you read that correctly from me! Well said Cort, I only said that because I know how much you couln't stand the FWD cars compared to the RWD versions

I know a lot of people have commented on the Monte being the 2-door version of the Lumina only to have you Cort straighten them out about this.
Many Monte owners do not like the '95-99 Montes which I don't really understand? Who cares if it's FWD? It's not the FWD part that makes or breaks it. It's the fact Chevy named it "Monte Carlo" that counts.
I've heard the comments about '00-07 Montes not being a Monte Carlo either cause of them being FWD. I bet anyone who believes this would have a change of heart once they drove an '06-07 SS or one of the supercharged '04-05 Montes.
Even the n/a 3800 is a decent running engine.
