ok i've been wondering this for a while.. but.. why does the shifter "move to the right"? I know anyone with the factory floor shifter knows what im talking about, I dont understand why it does this...
Mine also doesnt firmly lock into place in each gear. I've studied mine a bit, and am trying to figure out some way to maintenance it and get it working better, or maybe thats just how it is?

I've owned 5 second gens years ago, but not one had a factory floor shift! I like my bench seats, LOL.
I don't even remember the adjustment. When I get home tonight, I'll see what I can dig up for you.

What I had read a while ago is that this is a "speed-shifter" or "racing stick" that was originally produced for the Camaro.
In the normal (left) position it works through the normal detents. But in the spring loaded, race position (right) the detents are set differently and you can push to the right and pop through the gears but it will prevent your from slipping into Neutral accidentally. Normally, you can slip from Drive or 3rd gear into Neutral, but in the speed shift position this is prevented....
That's if my memory is working right. I'll have to jump into the 76 tonight and try racing someone and find out if that is an accurate description .... LOL

Okay.... in the left/normal position you can just pop the shifter from 1 to 2 to D to N. In the right/race position, you have to push the button to shift from 1 to 2 to D to N. Again, to keep you from getting jerky in a race and shifting too far to soon...

Does yours lock into the right position, or just "lean" over? I'll have to go mess with mine sometime. I've never had a problem hitting it from 1st, to 2nd, to 3rd and ever accidentally knocking it into neutral though.
