80 also has the marker'turn light on the front fenders since the headlights dont have it next to them. 78-79 wrapped around right next to the headlight and didnt use the fender mounted. My favorite gen. Can't read enough on them.

Hmm...I sense another trivia question in this..... Been a while since I've done trivia ... maybe I need to do that again........ We'll see . Trivia is good. Did all 3rd gens get the aluminum deck lid? My 78 had it.

Actually by white 80 has a steel one.... It had some circular scratches on the trunk lid when I got it from magnetic based CB antennas being put on it.
A friend of mine had a 78 with T-tops for a while and he said his trunk lid was aluminum but I could believe that at first since mine had been steel. Then he showed it to me and the weight of it alone proved it to me but he brought out the magnets to prove it too.
On my 80, with the wing spoiler on it, it was enough weight (steel construction plus the fiberglass wing) that it didn't take much for it to fall down when opened. A few times I got the trunk lid in the head when a slight breeze would blow up.
Our 78 is definitely AL. Now, I'm going to have to check my other 80 parts cars to verify if they are AL or Fe.

So far sounds like 78 and 79 had AL and not the 80. Strange since they already had all the mouldings done for the Aluminum.

Exactly my thought too... and then they changed the design all together the following year. It may be that the forms for the AL trunk lids were made stout enough to support fabrication in Fe too. Don't know.
I forgot to check out the trunk lid on the parts 80 at my house last night. Of course, it's "urban camouflage" paint makes it a bit hard to discern if it will be the original trunk lid. The car is mostly gray, but has a gold header panel and bumper, a gold trunk lid, and a brown hood. That kind of "paint job" keeps it on the low-risk-of-being-desired-enough-to-be-stolen list, thus the nature of it's camouflage. I've been working 12-16 hour days the last 2-weeks so I tend to forget many things by the time I get home...

actually I had a 3rd gen before I was I was a "full monte guy" it was a maroon 79 I got for free back in 1993 . A 305 V8 car, was missing the intake and carb thoogh and had a bad rear frame. I was going to take the motor and trans out to swap in my 81 malibu , 2 young kids and a mortgage at the time put a halt to that idea LOL. Who would have guessed 8 years later my moms 87 Monte LS would be the car that got me hooked !!!
