ever have that one car you wish you still had and would do any thing to get it back? well mine would be my old 1982 Grand Prix LJ, my first car. the car was from texas as far as i could tell straight zero rust no bondo (no one ever believed it untill they saw it) the black was still glossy on the sides the roof and hood became a serfice rust flat black mix. the car use to have a olds 350 deisel witch was replaced a long time ago with a olds 350 gas engine from a 1969 cutlas ram rod solid lifter engine had the F41 heavy duty suspention system (standared on the heavy deisels from what i read in the parts book) had the pillowy seats colum shifted TH400 (becuase of the olds deisel) 8 bolt (i think all G-bodies had that please correct ;D) with a 3.23 and posi. i had the tired olds engine and trans out of the car at school doing work on it. well over winter break the car was stolen the police wouldn't do any thing becuase acourding to them it should not of been there even though i had permission from the school still have not found it it's been 5 years now i figure it was turned into a drag car or a cube and went to china so any one else have a car they would give any thing to have back? here is a pic of it the day i bought it and drove it home ;D (yes those are monte checkard bored rims later went on my 85 MC CL)

Lets see. It would have had a 10 bolt 7.5" rear end and prob a TH350C trans unless the trans was swapped out.
But, I had a 82 Monte with the 350 Olds Diesel that I swapped in a Olds Gas 350. Broke my engine lift pulling the Diesel too. It later was swapped for a SBC 350. The Diesel trnas never liked the gas engines. Dumb idea on my part.
Now, I wish I had my 78 Monte back. It was my first car, it was a 305 later swapped to a 350 (still have that 1 in my Monte now, its been in 3 Montes and 2 trucks and been rebuilt a few times now), had a TH350, POSI, floor shift and buckets. Exterior was Carmine with Maroon/White Interior. I so want another one.
If you r familiar with Tony at Mac Ink and recognize his car, thats what I pretty much had except my paint was fading.

lets see, I wish I had my 71 Monte with the 402, my first car and the only big block I ever owned, I wish I had My "finished" 74 Monte, Cause that was the only 2nd gen I ever really finished, had 4 others that were parts cars or I sold before I really completed them, I wish I had my 79 Monte, the fastest car I ever owned, built 406 SBC, passed everything but a gas station!
Hell, right about now, I wish I had all of them!

i have noticed on craigslist they go for squat wile MCs, regals, and cutlasses tend to go for outrages amount of money i found one with a good body ok int and a running engine for 1200 wile a monte of similar condishin was being sold for 6,000. no love for the GP it seems of cours they did not have a gas V8 untill 85 so that might have soem thing to do with it. (from like 81-84 the only V8 was the deisle wile the other G-bodys at least got the small 4.x liter V8s)

84s had a 305. Buddy's car. I assumed that all GPs had the 305. May not be a common option that was ordered though. His first one was the 3.8L V6.

Wow ... that was a nice GP, 85! Hell, right about now, I wish I had all of them! *grins devilishly* I still do! Well ... not quite. The ONLY one of my former cars I'd want back is my '88 MC LS. It was dark gray with gray interior, bucket seats/floor shifter, the honeycomb/checkerboard wheels. It started nickeling and diming me, so I sold it. Sibling rivalry is NOT acceptable to me. After I sold it, I drove the '79 MC Landau through that next summer ... then bought my '97 Corsica (er, malibu) ... followed by the 2000 Lumina LS coupe. well did some looking (carfaxs yay) aperantly in 2004 (it was stolen in 2003) it was insured and registured in canada (no title needed there just a bill of sales) it was issued a title after every thing cleared (the lazy ass cops never filed the police report ) i got his number and called him he was vary helpfull. the guy resored it mostly and drove it. it was his class project (went for body work) he then sold it on ebay in 2007 i never saw it becuase i was not looking at canadian cars he did say if he knew he would of returned it or at least soled it at his original cost (school paid for the resto) then some one in detroit michigan bought it (the one with the craigslist ad) he drove it but the fuel mileage was not what he wanted (3 speed auto 3.73 gears) and this is where i am today but i know it is still out there and my moms old high school friend is a lawyer and is going to help me get it back heck i don't even mind paying a resanable cost for the car

Amazing that you have been able to track it down like that.
No title in Canada? Strange. To easy to sneak them across the border that way I would think.

ya aperinatly all they need is a bill of sales writen and signed by the seller. if the car come up stolen they get you later. becuase thecops never filed the police report it was never reported stolen also i never thought of putting the vin through a carfax i was sure it became a cube still has not been registered yet though

Great detective work! By the way do you still have the original title? That will come in handy if you need to show proof. But because the cops neber filed a report, it might be hard anyway you look at it.
Good luck in retreiving it!
