I sure wish I could get as excited about the NASCAR season as you, Dave. I used to be. Now, I get more excited by hearing about dirt track or local races. *sighs* I think the reason I can't get into the NASCAR season much anymore (well, except for maybe the Daytona 500) is that, imho, it's disgusting that NASCAR has thrown out its own rule about racing something that can be bought by the general public. They through that out the window when they let the Taurus and Lumina race in the late 1980s. Now, the Dodge Charger is about the closest thing being raced to what you can buy. At least the Dodge Charger you can buy is RWD, but sadly, you can't get it in coupe form. The Ford Fusion ... can't be bought in RWD or a coupe. And, don't even get me started on the Ch#$r%*et Celebrity/Lumina/"impala". As for the Camry, well, at least they won't have to worry about whether or not it'll go fast and stay going fast ... lol. See, I like all forms of motorsports, I was heavily into NASCAR when I was in high school and college, When Dale Sr. died, I didn't watch a race for years. Then Someone started a Fantasy NASCAR group on Yahoo and I figured what the heck? So I started to get back into it. Now as for local Dirt and Asphalt tracks, I have been on a few pit crews and from in the pits, it is the most exciting thing you can ever do! But I had to get away from it because I was out too much and didn't want to risk my marrage. Now that Matt is older, he's into the car scene and we spend time working on the Montes, so I forget to hit the tracks now and then.
But through the years, I have taken Matt to everything from oval races, to the drags, to Monster trucks, to boat races, to lawn tractor pulls. it Doesn't matter! if it's loud and fast, we love it!

Sadly, I lost interest in NASCAR even before Dale Sr's death. Though, since his death came during the Daytona 500, I saw the crash ... live. I just "recently" got into dirt track racing ... thanks to a friend of mine from the First Gen MC Club who has a cousin that races at the dirt track in Freeport IL. I TRY to get out there at least once a year to watch him race, but I haven't made it out there for a couple years now, iirc. Hopefully this year. We'll see. The first time I saw him race, my friend was on the crew in the pits ... and invited me to join them there instead of in the benches with the rest of the family. What an AWESOME experience that was. Very cool to see the "behind the scenes" stuff.... Heh ... it sure is. My goodness, we didn't have time to chat at all until after the race. But, it sure was exciting!
