well last week i took the grand prix out of storage. it was not running right it was running rich blowing out black smoke and fauling plugs even though the o2 was reading correctly.
so i just stopped driving the car. i went to remove the fuel rail becuase i found a fuel leak and well stopped for the day went back out the to the garage becuase i forgot my phone to see an orange glow comming from my engine i get the extingisher and put it out.
apraseer come over gives me $1200 so now i am going to make it faster (why not lol)
so here i will post up the engine build as i go along still need to pull the engine out probably will do that next week end

what ignited the fire? fuel laying on a hot intake shouldn't have caused it, But since you already had a fire, Why not do a build up? Good Luck

Ahh, yeah one good spark will set it off, but even so. that takes a lot of gas into the alternator to ignite a fire. I mean the piss water gas they sell us in NY isn't that flamable anymore.

well got the heads off the short block is done 2 pistons are missing parts of the ring land and 2 more are cracked. i kind of expected this with how bad it was starting to run even before the fire. problem i have now is money. at this point i am probably better off selling off what i can and just putting in a stock supercharged 3800 L67.

that isn't in bad shape for an 84. and they are poping up in junkyards alot lately so finding parts shouldn't be an issue. but polish and sell those cragers! never cared for them and if it will help pay for the project, even better. probably could find a set of nice set of Z28 wheels cheap that would look better. Good luck with it!

i have a rotted out '84 z28 that i bought back in january that i was DDing untill the floor gave way (literaly) i was glad i was in my drive way. i plan on swapping parts over like the hood and the rebuilt rear end with a 3.73 and powertrax locker (only resone i bought it was for the rear lol) paid $400 for that. i plan on keeping the non aero bumper and painting the fake hood vents, headlight buckets, turn reccesses, grill slits, lower grill mesh gold, and put the gold pin stripping back on the car. after seeing other berlinettas the black ones where plain looking in cimpairison not sure on the rims i kind of like them depens on what i could get for them and if i could find the original turbines that are supose to be on the car. i could always paint the inside gold if i find turbines from another car here is a good pic of the stock rims and pin stripe here is my favrite part of the car. the tach button turns the odometer in to a read out for the tach insted of just the bar graph

kind of long and funny story the guy walks over too me and my uncle last monday. not weird seeing as he is my uncles naighbor but aperantly he needed the car back turns out it was his wifes car and he sold it when she was gone becuase she was talking about getting rid of it. turns out she was not too pleased when she returned. sooo being strapped for cash and not realy wanting to get rid of the car i told him sure you can have it back but for $1800 little more then double what i paid ($700) seeing as i made it safe to drive and got it running too my dismay he gave me the money after a vary long argument with his wife (i just ignored her and stayed firm on the price) so good news is i have money for student loans yay the caddy was a '84 with a 4100HT v8 and a smashed. we where scraping it out sold the body too a local who does demo durby

I wanna see u fit a V8 into it and turn it into RWD. Maybe a blower sticking out from under the hood.
And hard to believe the car is that clean in MI. Maybe someone moved there with it recently.

Maybe someone moved there with it recently. it was bought in indeana where it stayed untill 2007 when the guy i got it from bought it and moved it too south west michigan area. untill 2007 it never seen snow and lived under a car port (the rear of the car has an oxidation line across the trunk) only having 137,000 miles this means it was dirven less then 7,000 miles a year. and the guy i got it from said he put 30,000 on it from 2007-2010. it also has this thick under coating stuff on it. a bit of an update though i replaced the factory original struts and shocks with KYB GR-2s it raised the car 1/2" and rids smoother now ;D
