Hey guys... my husband and I have started our winter project. We are doing a teardown and rebuild on the original 305 from my Monte SS. Then the next step is beginning the TPI conversion using parts from my brother's Z28 that he is parting out. Originally I had planned to swap out the motor completely to a TPI setup, but instead we decided to go with the original motor and convert it. Keeps it more of Dad's car. I'll share pics and info along the way. I'm looking forward to a fun (and at times frustrating) learning experience.

Oops forgot to add my link. Here's the first pictures during the teardown. 5 broken pistons all togther and we found pieces of them in the oil pan. Amazingly, at the time the motor was pulled, it still ran... it ran like crap but it ran, lol. www.flickr.com/photos/54734417@N03/

Jen, thats great that your rebuilding the motor! broken pistns is not a good sign through. Make sure there is no damage to the cylinder walls. if the scoring is really bad, maybe go back to the idea of your brothers motor. Boring out a 305 isn't common, so new pistons won't be easy to find or cheap.
By the way, I don't do facebook, so I can't see the pics.

The cylinder walls actually look good. So hopefully it will be okay. He finished tearing everything down while I was at work today and I think the total was 5 broken pistons.
ps- I switched the link to flickr instead of facebook just for you. ;D

Thanks sis!!! Yeah the motor doesn't look bad, but I couldn't see the cylinder walls. Looking like a good project. The piston skirts being broken lead me to believe the wrist pins are loose and causing a bit od piston slap.

I picked up a friends 305 from there Camaro today. Took it to work and its already in pieces. Would love to just rebuild SBC for fun, but something has to pay the bills.
As far as TPI swap info, I belong to another Monte Forum and lots of swaps been done with lots of info on adaoting the harness to the Monte plug. Blah, blah, blah..Let me know if u need it.

Thanks, I will. I'm pretty certain that my brother already has everything together though. I think his new hobby is doing crazy swaps.. he put a crossfire injection motor out of an 82 Z28 in his Grand Prix and it looks factory. It's sweet.
