Saturday, December 6, 2008, was my parents' 35th Annual Christmas Open House. The event started out as a "thank you" to those that helped them move into their home. It has grown ever since, and many people look forward to it as a way to "kick off" the holiday season. It takes a lot of preparation (decorating, making treats, etc.), but it is well worth it, whether 80 or 30 people attend. Do you have any long-standing December traditions that you look forward to every year? Here is a tradition! Posting this on the site! LOL!
Twas the night before Christmas and in the garage, There wasn't a trace of a Ford or a Dodge. The presents were wrapped and the lights were all lit, So I figured I'd mess with the 57 chevy a bit. I lifted the hood, When a deep voice behind me said, " She looks pretty good." Well, as you can imagine, I turned mighty quick, And there, by the workbench, stood good ole Saint Nick! We stood there a bit, not too sure what to say, Then he said "I don't suppose you'd trade for my sleigh? I said "No way, Santa" and started to grin, "But if you've got the time we could go for a spin!" His round little mouth, all tied up like a bow, Turned into a smile and he said "Allright! Let's go!!" So as not to disturb all the neighbors' retreat, We pushed the Chevy quietly into the street. Then taking our places to drift down the hill, I started my baby, it was always a thrill. The sound that erupted took him by surprise, But he liked it a lot, by the look in his eyes. With tires a'cryin' and headers aglow, We headed on out where the hot rodders go. And Santa's grin widened, approaching his ears, With every shift up as it went through the gears. Then he yelled "I can't recall when I felt so alive!" So I backed off the gas and said "You wanna drive?" Ole Santa was stunned when I gave him the keys, When he walked past the headlights he shook at the knees! Then the small block erupted with that Flowmaster sound, When Santa stomped on the gas the tires shook the ground! Chirped into second and again into third, I just sat there holding on, at a loss for words. Then I heard him exclaim as he blasted from sight, "Merry Christmas to all, it's been a hell of a night!!!"

December traditions? Going broke!!!! No kidding! 3 kids all born in December. Oldest kid a daughter married a guy born on Pearl Harbor Day. Dec. 7th. My current and final wife born Dec. 14. Same day as my youngest. Jan. 3 is close enough so lets include my oldest son wife. The up side was that I must have been getting treated pretty darn good in those late Februaries and Marchs so many years ago. What else are you supposed to do on chilly winter nights?
