The English language is a curious thing.
Everyday phrases, when written out, are redundant:
"PIN number" ... as in "Personal Identification Number Number"
"ATM machine" ... as in "Automated Teller Machine Machine"
"VIN number" ... as in "Vehicle Identification Number Number"
"HAZ-MAT material" ... as in "Hazardous Material Material"
"UPC code" ... as in "Universal Product Code Code"
"Hot water heater" ... so, you heat hot water?
"free gift" ... thought all "gifts" were "free? Apparently not!
Interesting sentences:
"A calendar's days are numbered."
"A committee is a group that keeps minutes & loses hours."
"When a clock is hungry it goes back for seconds."
"A bicycle can't stand alone; it is two tired."
"Everybody is nobody to somebody."
"After you've heard 2 eyewitness accounts of an auto accident, it makes you wonder about history."
"A word in a dictionary is very much like a car at a show ... full of potential but temporarily inactive."
"A little town (or family) is where businesses struggle for survival against city stores & shopping centers but dig deep to help with countless fund-raising projects."
Anagrams:
"Silent" = "Listen"
"Dormitory" = "A dirty room"
Some definitions a friend shared with me:
"Namenesia ... remembering everything about a person, except their name"
"Wheelberg ... that big chunk of ice that sticks to the back of your car right behind the rear wheel"
"Parkcrastination ... the inability to choose a parking space in a near-empty parking lot"
"Intaxication ... the euphoria one feels about getting a tax refund that only lasts until you realize it was your money in the first place"
