Big Mike,
It is good to have you back man. I did a little digging the other day based on some information you posted about your continental kit. The american sunroof company was based in Michigan. They started out doing aftermarket sunroofs in the early 70's, a german engnieer, his quality was impeccable. This lead to FoMoCo picking him up to do "from the factory" sunroofs which led him to moving from CA to MI and expanding his work force. By the late 70's he was doing a lot for the Fords, Mercurys, and Lincolns. They bit I read then skipped into the 80's and talked about other work with Lincoln and Cadillac, and Buick doing the fake convertible top kits. So, I would say it was up their alley to do the continental kit and that they make their way onto Monte's. There wasn't any mention of it, but I can kind of connect the dots to where they may have done that kind of work. There was no listing as to just what cars; makes and models, and quantities of each, and what work was done on them.
So, I would say, while not GM designed, it may have "come from the factory" with that kit on it, just it made a lay over at Ameican Sunroof for a day or two while they modded it up and then moved it on to the dealer.
Did you ever find your build sheet for your car? it is most likely over the headliner, usually over the driver's side.

Yup, between the headliner and the roof.
It usually is just laying on, or taped to the headliner foam board.
It may or may not state anything about the Continental kit, but it would tell you what was on it from the factory, what assembly plant built it (most likely Doraville Georgia) and what dealer it was sent to. The one I have in front of me was sent to Fraser Chevrolet-Olds, In at Slippery Rock, PA
Oh, and hey, this question has come up before... GVWR for the car is 4414 GAWR F is 2169 GAWR R is 2245 Ship Weight F is 1899 Ship Weight R is 1297 So this makes the total car weight 3196.
This is for a 1980 MC with the Buick Turbo 231 V-6 (same as yours, correct Mike?)

Yeah, weight should be darn close. I forgot you had the 229 but you were looking for the 231-Turbo weren't ya?!
The 229 bore and stroke specs are identical to the 305cid V-8. If you lop 2-cylinders off the 305, you have the 229. In Chevrolet's rush to develop more fuel economy in the late 70's they basically did just that. The balance of the crankshaft was never quite right and the 229 hops around in the saddles a little more than most non-modified engines and definitely not as smooth as the 231.

I've got to admit I don't think I've ever seen a '78, '79, '80, or any Monte of from 1981-88 with a continental kit on it.
A cousin of mine did own either a '79 or '80 Monte a few years ago. I know his car didn't have this option.

This morning, Doug and I went to a junkyard and found an 81-2? SC with the stainless strip and opera lights, I looked to see if there was any info in the car, but the entire interior was either gutted of what was left was shredded.
