Hate to see her go. Wish I could help u out, but in the same boat as everyone else.
Either way u r still part of the family here, so please stop by. If I run into a little money I will be calling but since tax return is spoken for already........
As nice as it is, if it was a Carmine 78 with buckets I would be all over it. Best of luck to u.

I understand that. Thats why mine has been sitting for almost 2 years. Seems like money always goes somewhere else. Its not plated or insured right now. Just covered up in the garage. Best of luck and hope it works out for u.

Mike, I am glad to hear it. Since its paid for, it doesn't need to be a primary driver. Only problem is continuing insurance. I don't think homeowners covers that even if its in a garage. Good luck to you and hope it all works out.
What all does the Monte need anyways?

What all does the Monte need anyways? well i realized that im missing a brake caliper pin/bolt... and the engine needs to either be replaced or rebuilt in the near future.... im thinking about replacing the 3.8 with a 4.3.... just need the money... my fiancee is picking up a full time job untill she starts fall classes so that should be a decent ammount of money coming in.... i mean even where i live its hard to find a part time job let alone a full time job..

R u talking about the "bolt" that threads into the spindle and holds the caliper in place, also providing the slide?

Mike the 4.3L is a good choice to swap in. Everything you would need to do the swap, like motor mounts, power steering hoses, etc, Are readily available for the 86-88 LS models.

Lots (most) accessory parts are the same as the SBC as well. But, V8 may be cheaper and can get respectable fuel mileage with those gears u already have. Actually, alot of what u have will work since the 229 is atill a 90^ V6 like the 4.3L and the SBC's.

Try selling it to someone from a less restrictive state. I live in Idaho. My vehicle inspection consisted of the DMV staff walking out to my car, saying "Yep, its an old Monte Carlo. Lights work?" and checking the VIN.

Have you considered antique registration to get around the state inspection? I know it restricts when you are allowed to drive but at least you'd still be able to keep it?

Thats a good point, But most of the states around here, they check everything I'm sure that is true. But my point is that if you advertise on, say, ebay a person from one of those less restrictive states may go for the car. Then they can hassle with picking it up. Might be more hassle than it is worth. Depends on how much more the car goes for. I hate to see a fairly good Monte get parted out.

How does it restrict when you drive? It all depends on the state but usually it's some sort of rule about not being able to drive the car for commuting.. so only for repairs, car shows, cruising, etc.. sometimes they limit the mileage you can drive per year or how far from home you can drive it. seems like that stuff is almost impossible to enforce and/or no one cares much to enforce it. I registered a car as antique because let's face it, with virtually no floor pan left (and no brakes), it's not gonna pass state inspection lol. $50 one time registration which lasts for as long as i own the car here in Virginia. no state inspections. i just had to sign a form certifying that the vehicle is safe enough to be operated on the highway. i don't drive it so it doesn't matter if it's safe lol... at the time it was at risk for being towed because i had no inspection sticker so this seemed like the best solution.

Interesting, thanks. I don't think we have anything like that in Idaho.
