I forgot about all the new laws states are passing about teen driving. When I got my license, actual operators license), I wasn't even 16 yet. 15 years and 10 months thanks to drivers ed. I have no doubts that he will be responsible. You obviously don't want to take the chance and I am sure he has learned that from you and yours. Have fun!

Responsible? I dont know.
Setting a good example is what I was actually thinking.
U being responsible is like me being responsible. Even after my teens. I have settled down quite a bit and obey most laws now.

Well, Matt's drop spindles arrived yesterday. So last night we installed everything. But due to time restraints and Dead Camera Batteries, I didn't get to document the procedure. I only had an hour and 51 minutes to get it done before Diana came home. The stock height, Measured from the ground to the tip of the wheel well 27.5" in the front and 29" in the rear. After the 2" drop spindles adn drop springs in the rear were installed 25.5" in the front and 26.75" in the rear. equalling a killer stance! No more unsightly rusted springs, LOL! The Drop spindles were purchased of Ebay for a 84 S-10 pick up and they fit perfectly! Funny thing, They are made by Ground Force, But they have Bell T. stamped into them. I Can't remember what Mine say, But if they are really Bell Tech Spindles, We just saved about 75 Bucks! next up some better sway bars and links, LOL! Like I said, A killer stance.. Extra Special Thanks to Keith W [85T5MCSS] Or as Matt calls him "Uncle" Keith for the Donation of the rear springs.

Nice! it looks great! That thing is begging for some different wheels though!

So much better. I like it a lot more now.
Yeah, I'm undecided on the wheels. Not my style.
And nothing wrong with the factory sway bars. I won't go bigger on mine. Its already much stiffer than the rear. I need to work on the rear more so it'll handle better.

ya it definitely needs some bigger/fatter tires in the rear. I always liked old school rallys on those 80s SS's, but with that paintjob, I dont think it'd match very well. It needs something new school, with some old school styling cues.

LOL! The wheels came with the car. They are very outdated! remember, this is going to have the Pro Tour styling.
Matt wants a set of Rocket "Boost" wheels in 17" , But at $300 + for each rim and then he'll need tires, these will have to do for now. His second choice and what I kind of like better is a set of s-10 ZQ8 wheels. But like I said, that isn't affordable right now.
And Keith, really? the stock sway bars are just as good? Cool, then all we'll need to do is replace the bushings, links and have the bar blasted and pwdercoated! that saves some $$

Yep. Most people overkill on the sway bar. I assume he has the 36mm SS sway bar already. If u want a cheap upgrade, find a 36mm IROC hollow bar. Its lighter but thats the only real advantage. Good rubber bushings are probably the way to go unless he wants it harsh. I regret the PU control arm bushings and body bushings. Its rough now and thats not good for street manners. Smooth racetrack maybe.
I'm not an engineer, but the size of the bar with a SS spring is a pretty good balance. The rear is a different story. Make a brace that bolts to the rear frame horns and it'll be a big cheap handling upgrade.

How are the steering boxes on those Gen MC's? I know in my 76, a sweet upgrade is to change the steering box so there isnt all that slack in the wheel. It's already a boat, but it doesnt need to sway like one! This site, and your son's SS makes me reaaaally want a matching pearl white SS to go with my 76..

LOl,the rad braces made a noticeable difference in my T-top car. Uh, like Father like Son. U have noone to blame but yourself. Oh, BTW, my 15 year old daughter wants to know when she can drive the Monte. Yes she knows the 5 speed is in it, too.

Yeah, I know, But seriously, I have created a Monter! He took it for a drive today, and said it definitly feels better when turning at Higher speeds, But won;t tell me at what speeds!
Tell My "Niece" that if Dad brings her this way she can drive My SS around the block, providing she has her license!

getting ready to turn 15, AND my Nephew wants to learn to drive a stickshift. So he can get a choke, choke.....a Mustang. He likes the 1st gens.
So whats next on the list for the 84? I;m just glad he found a hobby instead of being a bum or a thug. As a parent u must be proud. Tell him to keep up the good work.

LOL! Better start beating that kid!!! LMAO!!!
Next is the floor, I just ordered the floor pan tonight so sometime by the end of the month he'll have it torn apart again. That and the Camaro Sway bar, he found the 36MM hollow one, so it's already painted and just need to find new bushings, By the way what would that part number be?? LOL!
Oh and he needs to get his truck done! I told him no more on the SS until the truck is complete. He has a pile of parts int he yard that need to be cleaned, primed and painted then assembled onto the truck. I'm getting tired of see them all over the yard.
And yeah, I am proud of him, he's really a good kid, he just bothers the hell out of me!

those fender and rad braces look tiny?
eather that or the GPs had larger bars. the ones on my '82 LJ Diesel (had an olds 350 gas) with F41 where 3x as big
the car also had bracing behind the rear seat
but still preaty cool i remember the GP handled like it was on rails. there was no flex at all with that car. i think it may of had a bigger front and rear bar too.

The radiator cross bars are the same in GPs and Cutlasses. They are only about a 1/4" thick, and didn't come in the Montes or sme reason. Neither did fender braces. The fender braces are different amongst the different G bodies. The Cutlass ones are thin, but they don't take away from the engine bay. The GP are thicker hollow ones that, to me, seem to be too big and interfere with the overflow bottle. The G-body Bonnelville ones are a little smaller and nicer looking, but haven't seen a set that isn't bent or rotted.
As for the rear seat bars, Working on those too, Hoping to find a set in the junkyards so It would look stock, If not I can atleast get the measurments and make a set. Plus I seen a thread someplace where a guy made a cross bar that connects the rear Bumber braces together to stiffen the rear up. Later this Summer, I want to find that article and make a pair for me and him.
Yeah, Once he gets the larger sway bar in, the car should handle a lot better. Since he lowered it and alligned it, it seems to be really responsive now, I'm hoping it will be stiffer. Once he gets the new wheels and tires, 17"X7" rims with P235/XXR17 in front and possible 18"X8" with P245/XXR18 [not sure what aspect ratio to use yet] in the rear, the car should handle like a slot car.

i was mainly talking about the fender brace. the GP ones look like there stiffer even though they probably do the same. I remember the GPs over flow was compleatly diffrent then my Montes i tryed to replace the cracked one from the monte with a good GP one i had and it would not fit on the inner fender
one thing i always thought was strange between a Monte F41 and a GP F41 is the front frame horn bracing.
my monte had one bar that went across the front wile the GP had the two bars that came from the center of the crossmember under the engine to the end of the frame rails.
both cars had the holes for both styles just weird how they differ.

Strange, my F41 Montes (85 and 88) have the triangle brace on the front. It needs welded into 1 piece, but factory was not like that.
Hope to get a welder to make me the bar from rear frame horn to rear frame horn. Also running 1 from top of shock mount to top of shock mount on the rears. Sounds like I may need to make a cpl of each.
